Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2295, #2212, and #7263. All were built by GM-EMD. #2295 is an EF-25 built in June of 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2212 is an EF-22 built in March of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. And #7263 is an EFS-17M built in November of 1959 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. In this context, they're rounding the Curve on their way to Irvona to pick up a mineral train and then pull it down the Allegheny Mountains to the Receiving Yards in Altoona. (#2 of 39)

Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2529, #2535, and #2207. #2529 and #2535 are both GF-25's built by General Electric and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #2529 was built in September of 1964, while #2535 was built in February of 1965. And #2207 is an EF-22 built by GM-EMD in March of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. In this context, they're rounding the Curve with a TrucTrain on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. (#3 of 39)

In this context, they're rounding the Curve with a fully-loaded mineral train on its way down the Allegheny Mountains to the Eastbound Receiving Yard in Altoona. Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1966. Partially visible here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8668, an AS-18AM built by the American Locomotive Company in February of 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. It;s rounding the Curve at the head of an iron ore train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where the two head-end helpers will be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona. (#30 of 39)

Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8668, #8663, #2200, #2201, #2203, and #2202. #8668 and #8663 are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8668 was built in February of 1958 while #8663 was built in January of 1958. #2200, #2201, #2203, and #2202 are EF-22's built by GM-EMD in February of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. They're rounding the Curve with an iron ore train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and the steel mills of Pittsburgh. Note all of the PRR G-39 "Ore Jennies"! (#31 of 39)

Shown here on Track 1 (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2367, #2404, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #2367 is an EF-25 built by GM-EMD in April of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2404 is an AF-24 built by the American Locomotive Company in October of 1962 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. They're rounding the Curve with a fully-loaded mineral train on its way down the Allegheny Mountains to the Eastbound Receiving Yard in Altoona. Note the returning pushers on Track 2. (#34 of 39)

Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1966. Shown here on Track 2 (F to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6303, an unidentified GM-EMD locomotive, and #6308. #6303 and #6308 are AF-27's built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower each. They served as tail-end pushers on a TrucTrain as far as Gallitzin, where they were uncoupled and are now being returned to East Altoona for further assignment. Note the fully-loaded eastbound mineral train on Track 1. (#35 of 39)
