Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2295, #2212, and #7263. All were built by GM-EMD. #2295 is an EF-25 built in June of 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2212 is an EF-22 built in March of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. And #7263 is an EFS-17M built in November of 1959 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. In this context, they're rounding the Curve on their way to Irvona to pick up a mineral train and then pull it down the Allegheny Mountains to the Receiving Yards in Altoona. (#2 of 39) |
