Description:  Here is the first of four original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken from the 17th Street Bridge in the Juniata section of Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6432, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during September of 1943 and retired in April of 1958. In this context, it's exiting the East Altoona Roundhouse but will soon stop short of the Bridge. Note the shadow silhouette on the ground to the left of it. At the right is PRR engine #6722, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during May of 1930 and retired in August of 1955.

Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6432 and another locomotive whose road number is not recorded. Both are "J" Class (2-10-4) "Texas" steam locomotives built in Juniata. #6432 is a J-1A constructed in September of 1943 and retired in April of 1958 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, they're about to pass under the State Route 53 Bridge with a mixed-cargo freight out of Altoona bound for Conway Yard.
