| With only a few months left in servce before it's scrapped, this 2-8-2 Mikado is still working the rails around the Elgin, IL, yard. Built by Baldwin in September of 1922 as MILW 8321, it was renumbered in June of 1938 to MILW 421. The loco faced retirement and scrapping in September of 1954 after 32 years of service. Specs - class L-2b, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine wt of 292,770 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
