| East Altoona. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken in East Altoona, Pennsylvania. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1138, an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during January of 1916 and retired in February of 1960 after 44 years of faithful service. Its main driving rods have been removed, so it's been prepared for movement to the Recycling Center. Prominent in the background is the 17th Street Bridge; beyond it (at the far left) is the East Altoona Roundhouse. The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded. |
