PRR 9493, FF-16, 1952
Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 25 July 1952 ~ 68 years ago today! Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9493, an FF-16 built by Fairbanks-Morse in October of 1950, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in April of 1965 after just 15 years of revenue service. Along with several other diesel-electric units (not pictured), it's waiting for its next helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin where they'll uncouple and return to the 7th Street Bridge area in Altoona and prepare for yet another run up "The Mountain." ("Stoneborobranch"; #19 of 20)
