Here is page one of a seven-page article by Tom Hanna entitled "Altoona Works." It was published originally in the January 1946 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 20. Photo Caption: "One of the class T-1 fast passenger locomotives [at] the locomotive test plant. A locomotive can run 100 miles an hour or more while standing still where test readings can be more accurately obtained." This official photo was taken on Thursday, 20 April 1944. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6110, a T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during April of 1942 and retired in December of 1953 after just 11 years of revenue service. |
