How does a boxcar from the Northern Pacific Railway end up in the middle of rural Pennsylvania? Back in 1972, this car had been brought to the New Albany station, north of this location on the Lehigh Valley State Line & Sullivan Branch, for a customer in town. While it was still parked in New Albany, a flood from Hurricane Agnes washed out the tracks. The Lehigh Valley Railroad chose not to repair the line as the branch wasn't all that profitable and the car became stranded. It stood in place next to the station until 2009 when it was acquired by a private party and moved south by truck to serve as a storage unit at this lumber company. |
