Union Pacific's LJL 41 performs switching duties just south of the Utah County Town of Pleasant Grove on UP's Provo Industrial Lead. This is Union Pacific's former Provo-Salt Lake City Mainline,It was downgraded to branch line status in 1985 when UP obtained trackage rights on the Rio Grande Mainline to the west. However,Union-Pacific kept this portion of the Provo-Salt Lake City Mainline open as a through route in the late 1980's when Rio Grande would shut down it's own line for work windows. In 1993 Utah Transit Authority bought the portion of the UP Provo Subdivision from Mount to Salt Lake City for it's Trax operations. |
