Tom Beckett General Nice shot-it is a quintessentially American granger scene. I love this part of the country-wide open spaces and grand vistas. The claim to America's oldest Class 1 railroad is probably arguable, though I think you are correct in that UP is the only Class 1 still operating under its original charter and on its original routes. The Delaware & Hudson, incorporated in 1823, still exists on paper if I recall correctly, even though the railroad operates now under NS or CP, depending where you are. Even this line is not strictly UP-it was SP prior to 1997 when UP merged it, and even there, SP was a successor to the Rock Island, having bought this line from them shortly prior to the Rock quitting in 1980. 8/29/2015 1:14:36 AM
