Pacific National on the Standard Gauge  Contributor's Pick!
A southbound Pacific National container train approaches Seymour Vic. on a cloudy Sunday. The southbound container train (behind a typically eclectic batch of power, NR40, G542 and DL39) is running on the "East Line" standard gauge track, which dates from 1962 when Victoria Railways put in a standard gauge line from Melbourne to the New South Wales (and Sydney) connection at Albury. The middle track here is the "West Line" which was converted from broad gauge in 2010, making the Melbourne-Sydney route entirely standard gauge when finished; the remainder, from Benalla to Wodonga is expected to be converted in 2011. The track to the far left is broad gauge, running towards Shepparton.
