FM. Here is a duplicate 35mm B&W slide of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 19 April 1948. Photo Caption: "Two K4s and a T1 take the 'Metropolitan' up to Gallitzin Summit near the Horseshoe Curve. April, 1948." In the lead is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #612, a K-4SA (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata as a K-4S during April of 1917, later equipped with a front-end throttle and reclassified as a K-4SA, and retired in April of 1958 after 41 years of faithful service. This photo comes from a slide set entitled "Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania Railroad" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (22-15). |
