Various sources have reported these to be called Crandall Cabs. During a power crunch C&NW bought surplus units from UP and added these cabs. The name appears to have come from the designer of the cabs. Some report these as E8Bs, While others call them E9Bs.

Kevin Nelson General Not 100% sure, but your info sounds correct. Nice photo 12/30/2009 1:54:44 PM
Bernie Feltman General It is amazing how much these cabs look like those in service years later. And, that bell makes it official C&NW!!! 12/30/2009 5:26:29 PM
Stephen Brock General Great contribution Fred! Happy New Year! 12/31/2009 6:59:39 AM
Alan Fricker General Fred: If I remember correctly, Crandall was the CNW's motive power superintendent when these units were purchased. I think this photo may have been taken in West Chicago, which was the overnight storage area for the the CNW's west line commuter trains. 2/3/2010 8:39:31 AM
