Saint Louis Keokuk & North Western 4-4-0 747 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, sometime in 1898, photo by Pittsburgh Locomotive & Car Works, Chuck Zeiler collection. Built sometime during 1898 (c/n 1834) by Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh became part of Alco in 1901) for the Saint Louis Keokuk & Northwestern as their 747, during 1904 it was renumbered into the Burlington System as Class A-6 478. However, the CB&Q was rebuilding its older 4-4-0 locomotives, and the rebuilt class A-2's extended into the 478 number series, so this locomotive was again renumbered to 199 sometime during 1916. It was retired in June 1927. |
