Old structure found
This old structure was found about 3 miles north of Ft Gaines GA. The structure once carried the tracks of the Central of Georgia over this small stream. It was tall enough that I could nearly walk upright through it. What would be the purpose of the boards at the bottom of the stream bed??? Erosion control??

David Barrentine General I wonder if the boards were used as a foundation? So you would be able to walk inside for maintenance? Reminds me of a bridge on the old Hartford & Slocomb line. There's a bridge just outside of Hartford that's kinda like this. I use to walk over it when I was in school. 2/13/2009 7:05:52 AM
Harvey Raymond General I've never seen boards lining a creek bed before but it does make sense for erosion control ! 6/3/2012 10:32:16 PM
Bob Hasty General I am guessing something more mundane. If you are riding a 4 wheeler you need a way across that blasted old fill. Let's go thru the underpass. It's all muddy, so let's just put down some planks and drive over them. How about that as an answer. 2/28/2013 4:16:05 PM
