L&N 3301 ROYAL STREET
Title: L&N 3301 ROYAL STREET
Description: This was the bedroom-side of Louisville & Nashville observation car 3301 ROYAL STREET while on display at the railroad’s station in New Orleans. It was one of eight Plan 4162 5-bedrooom / buffet / lounge observation cars ordered from Pullman-Standard by the A&WP, FEC, L&N, NYC and Southern for use on the CRESCENT and the NEW ROYAL PALM. All were built in February and March 1950. In 1954 the two L&N cars, 3300 ROYAL CANAL and this one, were reassigned from the CRESCENT to the GULF WIND and remained on that train until 1966. Both were withdrawn from lease to Pullman on 23 October 1968, retired in 1970 and sold to equipment dealer Preston Duffy. ROYAL CANAL was scrapped after a fire, but ROYAL STREET went into private ownership and, as of 2022, it meets Amtrak requirements and is used for excursion and charter service.
