Erie 2924 K-5
Description:
Here we have an incredible Erie Railroad in Youngstown photo taken almost 75 years ago to this day! Its September 12, 1941 as this westbound Erie passenger train pauses downtown. The fireman is standing on the tender of Erie K-5 #2924 taking on water with the original St. Columba Cathedral looking over on top of the hill. Everything in this photo is gone. What looks to be six tracks in this photo - all gone today. St. Columba is gone as well, suffering a fire from a lightning strike in 1954. The new St. Columba, built in the same location, does not compare to this beautiful structure. Photo taken by G. A. Doeright of Poland, Ohio, from the James Pope collection.
