Title:
L&N
HUMMINGBIRD
Description:
The Louisville & Nashville‘s
HUMMINGBIRD
was awaiting its departure from the railroad’s
JULIA STREET YARD
in New Orleans. The cars had been turned on the wye at
GENTILLY YARD
and serviced during their layover in the Crescent City. This was one of four sets of equipment built by American Car & Foundry between September and November 1946 for this train and the
GEORGIAN
. E7A 759 had been built in April 1945 as the 459A and was one of eight units delivered in this blue-and-aluminum paint scheme to match the new cars, but the engines and cars were repainted into standard blue L&N paint scheme beginning in 1950. The photograph was taken from Julia Street and the building on the left was the yard office.
