Plant 2 opened in 1960 and Plant 3 was built in 1967. Plant 1 opened in 1918 and stood about a mile to the north, until it was closed in 1994 and eventually demolished. A remnant of the former C&NW main line (now relegated to a passing siding) can be seen running parallel at right.

Train had three locomotives, CN 3837 and CREX 1517 pulling as well as CN 3807 pushing. Consist included four head-end buffer cars, including a pair of SOO 3-bay covered hoppers sporting 2 variations of the wheat paint scheme. The paint scheme is often referred to as "sheaf of wheat" or "shock of wheat," but one stalk does not a sheaf nor a shock make. I have also heard it referred to as "wheat stripe."

Description:  After setting out and picking up some cars, the motive power of a CN through freight emerges from the north end of the former SOO yard to reassemble its train at the former Monroe St. grade crossing at Neenah, WI on 2 Jun. '19. Train had two locomotives, CREX 1517 and CN 3828. Remnants of the former Adams St. grade crossing can be seen in the foreground. Adams St. was originally Washington St., until at least 1913. I'm curious to learn what Washington did to piss off the "great" City of Neenah. The Winneconne Ave. overpass is visible in the background. The white building partially visible at right appears to still be in use by Neenah Foundry. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St. used to be the yard. I don't know when the current yard (a few blocks to the south) was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard here.

The historic Neenah Cheese & Cold Storage Co. facility, 434 Sherry St., is partially visible in the background at left. It was built in 1902 after the original 1892 building was destroyed by fire and is currently used for storage. The historic Murer House, 432 Sherry St., is partially visible to the right of that. It was built by Felix Murer in 1892 and is currently home to Sherry Town Station. The WC (later SOO) depot stood on the opposite side of Sherry St. from those two buildings; it was built on the north side of Sherry St. on the east side of the tracks in 1891. It replaced the ca. 1871 depot that stood at the west end of Wisconsin Ave. The Sherry St. depot was demolished ca. 1955 when a new depot was built between Main St. and N. Lake St. on the west leg of the wye, about 850 ft. to the northwest. The Main St. overpass is partially visible in the background at left. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St. used to be the yard. I don't know when the current yard (a few blocks to the south) was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard here.
