ARB. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Nelson Bowers that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 November 1952. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4314, #9821, and two more "EF" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. #4314 is an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during November of 1922, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in December of 1942, and retired in September of 1959. #9821 is an EF-15A built by GM-EMD in May of 1951, rated at 1,500 horsepower, and retired in December of 1967. Partially visible at the left is a pair of Baldwin-built "Centipedes"; in the middle distance are the Coaling Tipple and the Roundhouse situated in East Altoona. Photo taken from the 8th Street Bridge in Juniata. |

Horseshoe Curve-1959. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 03 September 1959. Shown here is PRR engine #9821 and two others whose numbers are not visible. All were built by EMD. #9821 is an EF-15A built in 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. It is the lead unit pulling a westbound mixed-cargo freight train around the Horsehoe Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. |

17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 25 April 1964. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #9536, #9782, and #9821. All were built by EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9536 is an EF-15 built in 1948. #9782 and #9821 are EF-15A's built in 1951. They are about to pass under the 17th Street Bridge with a 64-car eastbound TrucTrain. The caboose is #477897. |
