Description:
The photographer, B. Rice, wrote an informative and interesting note on the back of this original b&w photo just after Louisville & Nashville received this new loco. He writes "This group;#6600-16, 3-4/80; of GP40-2's means a new model on L&N, and also the first high HP B-B's since 1967. This is a trend by major RR's starting in 1978. Apparently L&N had thoughts of trying 40 GP50's, but cancelled them.".
