Album Info:Atchison is a great town for watching trains. While it doesn't get as many passing through as Topeka, it's got plenty of great vantage points. The tracks run right through the middle of town, and there are several bridges with sidewalks over them-particularly 5th Street and 6th Street. Or, you can wait around at the picnic tables off of Main Street for a train to go by. There is usually at least one diesel parked in the yard off Main Street, and there are often one or two engines parked on the siding off the intersection of Route 59 and 73 (which has a conveniently located gravel road you can park on). Then, there's the railroad museum, which has a Santa Fe steam engine, a Missouri Pacific snowplow, and several old coaches and cabooses! Plus, Atchison is a small town, so safety is not a concern. Definitely check it out if you are ever in NE Kansas!
