ALCO In The Snow |
Description: |
Grand Canyon Railway 6776 sits silently on a side track in Grand Canyon Village, Arizona. The old unit is an FPA-4, essentially an ALCO FA built by Montreal Locomotive Works in Canada. This unit was one of 34 units built for Canadian National for passenger service, and was later handed over to VIA Rail after they took over passenger services in Canada. This unit and 6 other MLW, including two FPB-4 B-units, were sold to Grand Canyon Railway in the late 1990s, and were the staple locomotive of the railroad until the arrival of ex-Amtrak F40PHs. 6776 was taken out of service in 2009, and has been on display at Grand Canyon Village since 2016. |
